Turned off cookie-less shopping and reasons
(posted 19/12/2002 by marcom_n)
Our web site has been designed with cookie-less shopping in mind. We have disabled this feature due to the following reasons. Cookie-less shopping engages a session ID attached to the URL which is carried throughout the shopping session. Due to this nature, it is possible that personal information can be leaked to a public forum. For example, when you shop at EYO with the cookie turned off in your browser, the session ID is attached to the web address of each EYO web page. If you decided to cut and paste a certain page's web address to a public forum, then other people will know what are in your shopping trolley. If you have already logged in, then your personal information can also be viewable to other people. We have not received any concern from users. We have made this decision purely based on our own assessment. Please also note, the above potential leakage of sensitive information are not caused by the design structure of EYO web site. All cookie-less shopping web site have this common disadvantage. You can however still browse our web pages without the cookie to be turned on. You only need to have the cookie turned on (default in your browser) when you need to add items to your shopping trolley etc. Please also understand that EYO web site only sends cookies containing session information to complete the orders, it does not collect or store any personal information. |
